DANCE / CONTEMPORARY DANCE
Dance, at its fullest, invites a dancer to remain fully present as the dancing unfolds.
By integrating embodied knowledge and movement – with what is sensed and discovered in each moment – a dancer keeps movement alive, authentic, vivid and expressive.
My classes create space for inquiry and for listening inward while staying connected and responsive to the world around us.
A central focus in the training is the dynamic relationship between flow and gravity: how we meet gravity, work with it, yield to it, and allow it to move through our bodies.
The approach cultivates sensorimotor awareness and deepens proprioception in dancing.
Supporting efficient, fluid, and expressive movement, by working with weight, momentum and the energetic forces, which best can move free and unimpeded into, through and beyond the body.
Imagination, fantasy and curiosity are central to the training: fostering movement that is precise yet responsive, articulate yet fluid, technically grounded yet integrating speed and explosivity and most of all expression that is distinctly individual.
Shaped by years of practice and research as dancer and teacher, the work draws on Release Technique, Capoeira/martial arts, floor work, Modern Dance practices, (Limón, Laban), Urban Dance, Contact Improvisation and the Gaga Movement Language.
CAPOEiRA / CAPOEiRA FOR DANCERS
Capoeira
Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art form and national cultural heritage:
that uniquely blends martial-arts, soft acrobatics, dance and music with poetry and self-expression. Rooted in Afro-Brazilian culture, Capoeira is celebrated as an activity within a circular space called the “roda” (circle).
The movement vocabulary of Capoeira draws inspiration from nature and animals. The energy for the game, the rhythm and speed are determined by music and songs.
“Capoeira for Kids” values the paedagogic value and magic of Capoeira in an open minded and playful atmosphere.
